PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF USE OF SELECTED METHODS IN DETERMINING MODAL MINERAL COMPOSITIONS IN PERIDOTITE XENOLITHS
Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2011, Vol 444, Issue 444
Abstract
In scientific literature, there are several methods estimating modal mineral composition in peridotite xenoliths. The main techniques are focused on: 1) traditional microscopic analyses (point counting), 2) statistical recalculations of bulk-rock, and mineral chemical compositions, 3) digital image processing. The above techniques differ from each other in sample preparation, amount of material required for analysis, data acquisition time etc. Based on comparative studies, the most effective method for determination of mineral composition in peridotite xenoliths has been chosen.

SEASONALITY CHANGES IN THE COMPOSITION OF THE EXCHANGEABLE CATIONS OF THE COMPLEX AND ITS IMPACT ON THE RESULTS OF THE INVERSE MODELLING
Ion exchange is considered to be a fundamental process that form the chemical composition of groundwater. In practice, its quantitative aspect is the cation exchange capacity (PWK), which can be used as a basis for calcu...
STRONGLY SILICEOUS AND FERRUGINEOUS METASOMATITE (BIRBIRITE) FROM THE WEATHERED ZONE OF THE SERPENTYNITE MASSIF IN THE SZKLARY SAPROLITIC NICKEL DEPOSIT IN LOWER SILESIA
The paper describes strongly siliceous ferruginous metasomatite – birbirite found in two boreholes (Bobolice B2 and B5) located in the southern part of the Szklary–Wzgórze Siodłowe nickel saprolitic deposit in Lower Sile...
DETERMINING GAS CONCENTRATION IN GROUNDWATER IN STATIC CONDITIONS
The article discusses theoretical basis for determining gas concentrations in groundwater by measuring gas parameters in a well at head level. The measurements, performed in static conditions, apply to gas-rich groundwat...
LIGNITE OF THE POLISH LOWLANDS MIOCENE: CHARACTERISTICS ON A BASE OF SELECTED PROFILES
Some selected profiles of three Neogene lignite seams outcropped within opencast mines in the Polish Lowlands and satellite basins have been examined for comparison of macro- and microfacies and geochemical features. The...
