Prediction of Compression Properties of Single Jersey Weft-knitted Fabric by Finite Element Analysis Based on the Hyperfoam Material Model
Journal Title: Fibres and Textiles in Eastern Europe - Year 2016, Vol 24, Issue 2
Abstract
A 3-D finite element model based on the hyperfoam material model was developed in order to predict the compression behaviour of knitted fabrics in a large deformation state. The degree of compressibility of the fabric is determined by the extent of its volume reduction under external pressure. The compression properties of nine produced knitted fabrics at eight pressure values (2.04, 5.10, 10.19, 20.39, 50.97, 101.94, 152.90, and 203.87 kPa) were measured using a fabric thickness tester and results were compared with finite element results. The FEM results of fabric thickness changes (∆T) and fabric compressibility (EMC) showed good agreement with experimental results, with an average error of 5 and 4.9 percent, respectively. However, the results of fabric linearity of the compression (LC) and work of compression (WC) showed fair agreement, with an average error of 24.5 and 24 percent, respectively.

Comparison of Selected Chemical Properties of Fibres from Different Breeds of Dogs and German Blackface Sheep
Combed or picked out dog hair fibre, as one of the protein fibres, could be used in yarn manufacturing. Dog hair fibres have a specific scale structure, shape and distribution on the surface. Results obtained indicated t...
Development of Woven Spacer Fabrics Based on Steel Wires and Carbon Rovings
Woven spacer fabrics are used as reinforcing materials for fiber-reinforced plastics. These fabrics consist of mostly pliable textile fibers, which still require defined rigidity for different crash applications. In this...
Optimization of the Thickness of Layers within a Calender Shaft
Calenders are widely used in the textile industry to finish flat textile products. The main goal of the paper was to analyze the thermal phenomena within a calender shaft heated by oil and optimize the material thickness...
Novel and Efficient Method to Reduce the Jute Fibre Prickle Problem
The physical especially bending properties of jute fibres treated with dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) were studied in this work. To the knowledge of these authors, the influence of DMSO treatment on the prickle properties of...
Effect of Weave Structures and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles on the Ultraviolet Protection of Cotton Fabrics
The protection provided by clothing against ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been the subject of considerable recent research. However, there is a lack of information concerned with the effect of weave structures and zinc...
