Prediction of Compression Properties of Single Jersey Weft-knitted Fabric by Finite Element Analysis Based on the Hyperfoam Material Model
Journal Title: Fibres and Textiles in Eastern Europe - Year 2016, Vol 24, Issue 2
Abstract
A 3-D finite element model based on the hyperfoam material model was developed in order to predict the compression behaviour of knitted fabrics in a large deformation state. The degree of compressibility of the fabric is determined by the extent of its volume reduction under external pressure. The compression properties of nine produced knitted fabrics at eight pressure values (2.04, 5.10, 10.19, 20.39, 50.97, 101.94, 152.90, and 203.87 kPa) were measured using a fabric thickness tester and results were compared with finite element results. The FEM results of fabric thickness changes (∆T) and fabric compressibility (EMC) showed good agreement with experimental results, with an average error of 5 and 4.9 percent, respectively. However, the results of fabric linearity of the compression (LC) and work of compression (WC) showed fair agreement, with an average error of 24.5 and 24 percent, respectively.

Własności termiczne włóknistych materiałów gradientowych
W pracy zajęto się problemem modelowania włóknistych materiałów gradientowych o zmiennej średnicy włókien. Celem modelowania było określenie mikro i makro własności termicznych tego typu materiałów. Konsekwentnie, w dowo...
Applications of Bamboo Textiles in Individualised Children’s Footwear
As part of the work, preliminary tests were made of textile materials with bamboo fibres for elements of children’s footwear. The need to expand the range of materials which can be used in children’s footwear is dictated...
Characterization of the Twist Distribution Function and Twist Unevenness of Self-twist Yarns
In in-phase self-twist yarn there exists an obviously weak twist area between the twisted and no twisted zones. Therefore, during the self-twist spinning process, different distances from the two strands to the converge...
Effect of Weave Structures and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles on the Ultraviolet Protection of Cotton Fabrics
The protection provided by clothing against ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been the subject of considerable recent research. However, there is a lack of information concerned with the effect of weave structures and zinc...
Influence of Fibre Length and Preparation on Mechanical Properties of Carbon Fibre/Polyamidea 6 Hybrid Yarns and Composites
The aim of this paper was to investigate the effect of carbon fibre (CF) length and preparation prior to carding on the mechanical properties of hybrid yarns as well as composites consisting of CF and polyamide 6 (PA 6)....
