Predictive Model for TPH Degradation in Soil Amended with Spent Mushroom
Journal Title: American journal of Engineering Research - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 1
Abstract
This study involved the applicability of mathematical model in predicting the amount of residual TPH in contaminated soil. The performances of various concentrations of spent mushroom, mixed with constant weight of TPH contaminated soil were investigated. Although, there was no significant difference in the rate of degradation between 800g to 1000g of spent mushroom, the rate of TPH degradation increased as the amount of spent mushroom was increased. The order of TPH degradation rate in the cells decreased in this order: WF1>WF-2>WF-3>WF-4>WF-5>WF-0. Thus, the mix with 1000g spent mushroom recorded the highest performance. However, TPH degradation rate in the control soil sample was lowest because no remediating agent was used. There was strong correlation between the experiment and the model, which is an indication that it can be used to predict the concentration of TPH in soil amended by biological agent with time.
