PRELIMINARY STUDIES ON THE USABLE PROPERTIES OF INNOVATIVE WOUND DRESSINGS
Journal Title: Progress on Chemistry and Application of Chitin and its Derivatives - Year 2011, Vol 0, Issue
Abstract
There is endless and growing demand on a novel and innovative wound dressings, which except basic protective performance accelerate the process of wounds healing and/or replace the patient skin function. The studies on the new wound dressings result from the need of the quick and effective treatment of wounds, such as: having no tendency to heal, posttraumatic wounds, scalding wounds, ulcerations or bedsores. Chitosan is a biopolymer originated from chitin by N-acetylation. Due to the special behavior, such as: biological activity, it is linked to polymers having several and multifunctional applications, especially for designing of medical devices. The aim of the research was to evaluate the comprehensive performance of several kinds of chitosan prototypes of innovative wound dressings made of various usable form of chitosan. The evaluation of mentioned prototypes of wound dressing was carried out using the guidelines from series of PN-EN 13726 Standards harmonized with UE Directive 93/42/EEC and 2007/47/WE for medical devices

FOOD SUPPLEMENT BASED ON CHITIN WITH ENHANCED LIPID-LOWERING AND SORPTION PROPERTIES
Method for evaluating lipid-binding qualities of enterosorbent was described. Mathod takes into account peculiarities of food digestion. A number of lipid binding agents was tested. The researches showed that biologicall...
MISCIBILITY AND INTERACTIONS IN CHITOSAN AND POLYACRYLAMIDE MIXTURES
In the present work, the results of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies of films of chitosan acetate (ChA), polyacrylamide (PAM), and their mixtures are presented. The morphology o...
APPLICATION OF CROSS-LINKED CHITOSAN FOR PHOSPHATE REMOVAL FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS
This study investigated the effectiveness of phosphate adsorption onto non-cross-linked chitosan beads [CHs], and onto chitosan beads cross-linked with glutaraldehyde [ALD-CHs] and epichlorohydrin [ECH-CHs]. The weight r...
ELECTROLYTIC METHOD FOR OBTAINING POROUS CHITOSAN STRUCTURES WITH HYDROXYAPATITE
The aim of this study was to develop a preparation method of porous chitosan structures, in the electrolysis of the chitosan solution in acetic acid. Chitosan in aqueous acetic acid is a polyelectrolyte. During the const...
EFFECT OF A DEXTRANE AND HYDROPHILIZING SUBSTANCES ON THE PROPERTIES OF THERMOSENSITIVE HYDROPHILIC GELS CONTAINING LACTIC ACID COMPLEXED WITH CHITOSAN
Gels containing lactic acid complexed with chitosan at a stechiometric ratio 1:1 and 2:1 and 5-25% content of PEG-200 reveal pH from 3.42 to 4.95. The addition of 20 – 25% poloxamer 407 increases the pH from 4.55 to 5.30...
