Prevention of breast and cervical cancer in women

Abstract

Background: Cancer is the second after cardiovascular diseases cause of death in Poland. Breast cancer and cervical cancer are is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women. Prevention methods are cheap and widely available.Mammography and breast self-exams are the most commonscreening tests for breast cancer. The diagnostic tools for cervical cancer is basic gynecological examination and cytological screening.Aim of the study: The assessment of women knowledge about the prevention of breast cancer and cervical cancer , and the frequency of use of prophylactic examinations.Material and methods: The studies were conducted using a diagnostic survey with questionnaire for group of 80 women.Results: 80% (64) of women reported that their primary care doctor did not inform them about the possibility of preventive examinations. 86.25% (69) of women declared that they can do the breast self-examination while only a little over 21.25% (17) women do it regularly.Conclusions: Educational efforts should be made at the level of primary health care, targeted at patients participated in the prevention diagnostics and self-care.
