PROBLEMS IN THE BIOGRAPHER LATİFİ’S USE OF TURKISH: CASE SUFFIXES
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2015, Vol 8, Issue 38
Abstract
Language is an organism or a system that has been formed through long centuries. Within this mechanism, verbal differences in terms of dialects and regions are regarded as natural. However, compared with dialectical distinctions, a high level of uniformity is required in in written and literary language, which assures conformity in language and culture. The texts created in a language in a certain period of a time are expected to inherently reflect the literary and esthetic pleasure of their time. Considering the literary corpus of the 1 6th. century written in the Western Turkish, it is easily observed that the usage of language in this age was different at only negligible level from the Turkish spoken today. For instance in the works of Yunus Emre, Hacı Bayram Veli, Necâtî, Ahmed Paşa ve Fuzûlî, the language used is so refined as today’s and almost the same one we speak. The stock of vocabulary in their poetry both verbally and semantically does not differ a lot from the present Turkish. A a collection of poets’ biographies titled Tezkiretü’ş-Şu‘arâ ve Tabsıratü’n-Nuzamâ by Latifi is a case in example contrary to the description above. The author is noticed to have difficulty expressing what he has meant to say and not being keen on the grammaticality of affixes. As a prolific author Latifi is surprising to see that his language involves flaws. In his book mentioned there are a number of error categories which make his prose hard to read with pleasure. In this study we aim to analyze and evaluate the problems with the use of case suffixes.
