Problems of magnetostratigraphy of Pleistocene loess-soil deposits of the South of Ukraine
Journal Title: Геофизический журнал - Year 2016, Vol 38, Issue 4
Abstract
Main principles of magnetostratigraphy, paleomagnetic method of measurement and its applying in Quaternary stratigraphy is investigated. Results of Matuyama—Brunhes (M/B) boundary detection in loess-soil sediments of Ukraine and other territories in previous studies are presented. Attention pays on contradictions in determination of M/B boundary position and episodes within Brunhes chron according to data of different authors. Notably situation is shown on example of Roxolany section in Western Black Sea region. One of reasons there can be increase of magnetometric equip¬ments precision and quality of measurements which exclude the bias effects nowadays. Another reason is the contradictions in stratigraphic partition of sections that are located even within one loess province. We have got instructive data that allow to detect M/B boundary in Roxolany section at 46.6 m depth between Lubny and Martonosha soil horizons which corresponds to modern point of view of Ukrainian stratigraphers and consists to previous investigation of Dolynske section (M/B boundary was found in Martonosha horizon). Further complex paleomagnetic studies of Pleistocene sections of Ukraine will help to review and correlate still conflicting magnetostratigraphic charts.

Annual, 11-year period and aperiodic variations of the induction vector by eight observatories of Intermagnet network
A large amount of geomagnetic data of Intermagnet network observatories for 1991—2014 years have been processed and time series of induction vector components for every month were obtained. This paper presents the result...
Comparative characteristic of alternative density models along the DSS profile N 17
Analysis of density model plotted on the base of tomographic calculations has shown that the hypothesis of the obduction nature of jointing of the Crimea and the Black Sea is groundless. Earth's crust deep structure obta...
Paleoclimatic factors of reconstruction of thermal history of parent petroleum bazhenov and togur suites of southeast of West Siberia
The Regions of the West Siberian oil and gas province have unique paleoclimatic features: 1) Mesozoic-Cenozoic secular course of temperature, individual for regional paleoclimatic zones; 2) different scale processes of f...
Adequate velocity model as a basis for effective seismic imaging when mapping hydrocarbon traps associated with salt domes
This paper is the second one in a series of tutorials on the usage of modern migration methods for seismic imaging in areas of intense salt tectonics. In the paper, it is shown the importance of building an adequate velo...
Geoelectric models of the earth's crust of Ukraine by the results of the magnetotelluric studies using new methods of inversions
Application of 1D anisotropic inversion (using methods of stochastic and directional decomposition analysis) and 3D inversion (by thin layer) to magnetotelluric data in the territory of Ukraine allowed to prove quantitat...
