Process parameters optimization for synthesis of methyl ester from sunflower oil using Taguchi technique
Journal Title: Carbon - Science and Technology - Year 2014, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
In this work, transesterification of sunflower oil for obtaining biodiesel was studied. Taguchi’s methodology (L9 orthogonal array) was selected to optimize the most significant variables (methanol, catalyst concentration and stirrer speed) in transesterification process. Experiments have conducted based on development of L9 orthogonal array by using Taguchi technique. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and the regression equations were used to find the optimum yield of sunflower methyl ester under the influence of methanol, catalyst & stirrer speed. The study resulted in a maximum yield of sun flower methyl ester as 96 % with the optimal conditions of methanol 110 ml with 0.5 % by wt. of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) stirred at 1200 rpm. The yield was analyzed on the basis of “larger is better”. Finally, confirmation tests were carried out to verify the experimental results.

Digestate from anaerobic reactor as a potential fertilizer
Biogas is one of the most promising sources of renewable energy in today’s world. Liquid and the solid digestates are the byproducts of anaerobic digestion of various kinds of wastes to produce biogas. Disposal of liquid...
Enhancing anaerobic digestion of poultry litter in field digestors by incorporating in-line pre-digestor assembly
Anaerobic fermentation inside the digestor is the continuous process which results in the formation of useful biogas fuel. All feedstocks are not easily decomposable thereby necessitating the design of an “optional in-li...
Batch Kinetics, isotherm and thermodynamic studies of adsorption of strontium from aqueous solutions onto low cost rice-straw based carbons
