Abstract

Meniere's disease is a clinic al syndrome resulting from idiopathic or secondary endolymphatic hydrops. Clinic al presentation includes recurrent vertigo attacks, unilateral sensorineural hearing loss, feeling of pressure and tinnitus. The diagnosis of Meniere's disease is made according to AAO-H NS criteria from 1995. Presence of at least two episodes of vertigo, lasting at least 20 minutes and documented hearing loss (and negative brain MRI) allows for diagnosis of clinic ally defined Meniere's disease. Meniere's disease is a chronic condition with natural period s of exacerbation and remission, but in the long run leads to profound hearing loss. Frequent attacks and no improvement after conservative treatment are indications for surgical treatment . The most effective surgical procedure is vestibular neurectomy.
