Pseudohypoparathyroidism and seizures

Abstract

Pseudohypoparathyroidism is a very rare disease characterized by an inadequate response to the parathyroid hormone although it is present in normal amounts. Symptoms are related to low levels of calcium. Clinical findings characterised by seizures, headache, tetany, cataracts, dental abnormalities Low serum calcium, elevated serum phosphorus and parathormone levels were determined in laboratuary analyses. Calcification of basal ganglia. were seen in MRI or CT scan. An 18-year-old male was accepted with seizures. Biochemical disturbances were determined such as hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia. Parathormon level was high. Diffuse calsifications were seen in the basal ganglia, subcortical areas, thalamic and dentate nucleus in CT scan.
