Psychological aspects of memory and musical memory

Abstract
The article discusses the present state of research on musical memory. There are given currently applied definitions and divisions of memory types, including the most popular three-mode storage model. Apart from this, consideration is given to the descriptions based on memory functions, such as processing and operational memory, as well as notions associated with memory: memorization, storage and retrieval. What has been investigated is a series of memory-related activities occurring in our consciousness when a single sound phenomenon becomes the focus of attention. Descriptions of the processes and phenomena presented in the article facilitate understanding of the entire memorization process. The author also draws attention to the problems involved in research on musical memory, particularly to its occasional and non-holistic character.<br/><br/>
