Public Opinion as a means of influencing the state

Journal Title: Politicus - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue

Abstract

Despite the long-standing and steady interest of scholars in various aspects of the formation and functioning of the public opinion as a form of communication, as the instrument of the influence on the state, as an indicator of the democratic political processes, it has not been sufficiently investigated yet. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of public opinion as a way of influence on the state. It is known that the more authorities interact with the public, the more democratic it is. Instead, the non-use of public opinion in the decision-making process can lead to a weakening of trust, alienation of the people from state affairs. This, in turn, leads to the social tensions, political conflicts. To what extent the public opinion is taken into account in the Ukrainian politics? Are the forms of interaction between the state and public opinion regulated in the legislation? This article is devoted to the search for answers on these questions.
