Pulmonary involvement in Dengue presenting as consolidation - A Case Report

Journal Title: The Indian Practitioner - Year 2014, Vol 67, Issue 9

Abstract

Dengue is a major health illness affecting tropical and subtropical areas especially in urban and peri-urban areas. It is an arboviral disease transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti and is caused by four antigenically distinct dengue virus serotypes (DEN 1, DEN 2, DEN 3 and DEN 4). Infection caused by one serotype does not provide any protection against the other. On the contrary, the more serious manifestations of the disease i.e. dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS) occur more frequently on simultaneous infection with any other serotype.
