Qualitative research and its relation to the understanding of subjectivity
Journal Title: RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Given the risk of instrumentalization that qualitative research is currently facing, this paper analyzes the relationship between qualitative research and the understanding of subjectivity. The article is based on the methodological report of the dissertation entitled Configuración de subjetividad juvenil en contextos de violencia (Configuration of youth subjectivity in violent contexts). The findings derived from this work highlight the importance of both language and expressions for information generation techniques, as mechanisms allowing access to subjectivity. In addition, it proposes that qualitative research, by its nature, focuses on the study of the subjective, which entails the need to study complex interrelations that go beyond instrumentally and sequentially applying a set of procedures.
