Quality of life after liver transplantation or surgery for cancers of digestive system

Journal Title: Αρχεία Ελληνικής Ιατρικής - Year 2014, Vol 31, Issue 3

Abstract

Health is defined as not only the absence of disease, but as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. Evaluation of the quality of life should therefore include all these parameters. As the survival rate of patients subjected to liver transplantation for end-stage liver disease or surgical resection for malignancies of the digestive system improves, much attention has been focused by health systems on the quality of life of these patients following surgery. Many studies regarding the assessment of the physical, mental and social well-being of patients undergoing surgical treatment have been conducted. This is a review of the current documentation of the quality of life of patients after liver transplantation and major gastrointestinal system surgical procedures.
