R-FUNCTIONS METHOD FOR MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF VISCOUS INCOMPRESSIBLE FLUID FLOW PAST OBLATE ELLIPSOID OF REVOLUTION

Abstract

The stationary problem of flow past a body of revolution by viscous incompressible fluid is considered in the paper. To solve the above problem, the R-functions method is applied. With the help of R-functions the problem solution structure, which accurately takes into account all the boundary conditions of the problem and depends on some indeterminate components, is constructed. To determine these uncertain components, the nonlinear Galerkin method is applied. As a result, solution of the original problem is reduced to solving nonlinear algebraic equations system. A computational experiment was carried out for the problem of flow past an oblate ellipsoid of revolution at various Reynolds numbers. For the linear problem of slow flow (Stokes flow) a comparison of the obtained approximate solution with the known exact solution of the problem under consideration was made.
