Rainfall-Runoff Simulation Using WMS/NFF Model in Kameh Representative Watershed (Case Study: Razavi Khorasan Province, IRAN)

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 7, Issue 1

Abstract

Flood studies for the purpose of planning, optimal utilization and management of this natural phenomenon, such as issues with the country. The main objective of this study was to estimate the peak discharges and obtain runoff hydrographs at various locations along the Kameh watershed (about 52.18 km²) located in Razavi Khorasan province,Iran, for return periods ranging from 2-year to 500-years.In this research, watershed modeling was done with the help of a hydrologic model National Flood Frequency Program (NFF).The Watershed Modeling System (WMS) was used to delineate the Kameh watershed boundaries. A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was created for one of the major streams of the watershed, namely, Kalsalar by using WMS, and DEM data were further used to extract stream networks and delineate the watershed boundaries. Then rainfall–runoff simulation using NFF model was performed for estimate the peak discharges. Based on the results, application of WMS in the study indicated that, NFF model is suitable for applications of rain-runoff simulation with high speed and trivial error rate.
