RANKINGS AS ORDINAL SCALE MEASUREMENT RESULTS
Journal Title: Metrology and Measurement Systems - Year 2007, Vol 14, Issue 1
Abstract
Rankings (or preference relations, or weak orders) are sometimes considered to be non-empirical, non-objective, low-informative and, in principle, are not worthy to be titled measurements. A purpose of the paper is to demonstrate that the measurement result on the ordinal scale should be an entire (consensus) ranking of n objects ranked by m properties (or experts, or voters) in order of preference and the ranking is one of points of the weak orders space. The consensus relation that would give an integrative characterization of the initial rankings is one of strict (linear) order relations, which, in some sense, is nearest to every of the initial rankings. A recursive branch and bound measurement procedure for finding the consensus relation is described. An approach to consensus relation uncertainty assessment is discussed.

DIAGNOSIS OF THE OPERATIONAL STATUS OF ELECTROMECHANICAL DEVICES WITH AN OPTICAL FIBER VIBRATION SENSOR
In the presented paper a prototype of an optical fiber vibration sensor is described as a tool for diagnosis of machines and electromechanical devices. The application of the optical fiber as a sensor allowed a design of...
SYSTEM OREIENTED MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF SINGLE MEASUREMENT RESULT
Measurements in a system are performed automatically by using data acquisition cards typically consisting of an amplifier, a sample/hold circuit and an analog-to-digital converter. The results obtained from these cards a...
MEASURE OF ELECTRIC REACTIVE POWER
Generated electric power can either be dissipated or occur in the form of an electric field and a magnetic field. By replacing the voltage in the well-known equation for dissipated power (energy) with its derivative (a f...
NUMERICAL ANALYSYS OF THE INFLUENCE OF ASYMMETRIC DEFORMATION OF THE VELOCITY FIELD ON METROLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ORIFICE
A change of the stream direction during a flow through a single elbow or their system causes asymmetric deformation of the velocity field. If two elbows are located in various planes, also a stream swirl can occur. The i...
INTRODUCTION TO THE T AND CHI-SQUARE DISTRIBUTION FOR A MORE ACCURATE EVALUATION OF THE MEASURE OF THE WORD ERROR RATE IN ANALOGTO-DIGITAL CONVERTERS<br />
The word error rate (WER) in an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) is the probability of receiving an erroneous code for an input, after correction is made for gain, offset, and nonlinearity errors, and a specified allowa...
