Rapid diagnosis of “Fatigue” stress fractures using bone scintigraphy: A practical approach
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
Stress fractures can broadly classified into “fatigue” or “insufficiency” fractures depending on baseline bone health and amount of physical activity. Of these fatigue stress fractures present with a classical history of increased physical activity in healthy bones followed by pain typically after a few weeks. Imaging modalities include plain radiographs, MRI, CT Scan, Bone Scintigraphy (Scan) and Ultrasound. We discuss a short case series and explore key points for all these modalities and propose a simple algorithm for rapid diagnosis of fatigue stress fractures involving three phase bone scan.DOI: https://doi.org/10.22271/ortho.2017.v3.i2h.72

Evaluation of the ulnar styloid base on outcome after plate-and-screw fixation of a distal radial fracture: Unrepaired fracture
Background: The impact of an unrepaired fracture of the ulnar styloid base on recuperation after inside obsession of a fracture of the distal piece of the sweep is unverifiable. We assessed a progression of patients with...
Chronic haematogenous osteomyelitis of fibula diaphysis with pathological fracture and review of literature
Introduction: Management of fibular osteomyelitis presents various challenges with respect to stability of ankle mortise, poor quality of periosteum and fibular pseudoarthrosis. Case History: We present a case of a 6 ye...
Is outcome of delayed fixation comparable with early fixation in type 3 supracondylar humerus fracture in children
Background: Gartland type 3 supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children have been associated with serious complications and believed to benefit from an emergency treatment. However, several unavoidable factors som...
Evaluation of serum bone specific alkaline phosphatase levels in isolated closed diaphyseal fractures of long bones in relation to fracture healing
Introduction: In day-to-day practice, progression of bone healing is assessed mainly by clinico-radiological parameters. Furthermore, clinicians are unable to identify the delayed and non-unions early, and even advanced...
Functional and radiological outcome of intertrochanteric fracture in patients treated with dynamic hip screw and proximal femoral nail
Background: The aim of the study was to assess the functional and radiological outcome of intertrochanteric fracture in elderly patients treated with dynamic hip screw or proximal femoral nail. Materials and Methods: The...
