RECEPTION OF PETRARCHISM IN JOHN DONNE’S ELEGIES

Abstract

The article highlights Petrarchan elements in the elegiacal poems by John Donne. It is argued in it that despite the fact that the elegies of the English writer are genetically connected with a completely different tradition of love lyrics – Roman, they are not deprived of Petrarchan traits. It is also shown that the orientation on Ovid in these texts often takes well-tangible Petrarchan accents, that, undoubtedly, proves the creative reception of Petrarchism by the poet.
