Regulations Concerning Catholic Schools in the Code of Canon Law of 1983 and in Polish Law

Abstract
The Catholic Church has always taken care about giving the Christian faithful a proper upbringing. Even today education is one of its key tasks. School is a crucial element in the process of education. One of obligations of State is controlling the level of education and because of this, there are many legal acts, which regulate the system of education in Poland. The first part of the article describes standards of Catholic education. The basic principles are: the rights and duties of parents and the Church to the education of children and youth. The second part presents regulations of the Church and State for Catholic schools. These rules govern issues related to the duties and powers of the lay faithful, setting up schools and the supervision of competent ecclesiastical authority on teaching and upbringing.
