Reintegration of trading goods in regional credit institutions to create an integrated system – A plea for safeguarding regional sustainability

Abstract
Regional banking has been a long established, and hence sustainable, phenomenon. In recent times regional banks came under pressure. Not mainly because of losses in the financial crises – as the (inter-)national banks suffered – but due to high regulations and new competition. New competition can especially be seen from non-financial companies outside of the region that start operating their own banking divisions. Sustainable banking therefore is constrained. A proposal for regional banks is to go back to their roots and reintegrate non-financial trade in order to gain strength and take advantage of synergetic effects.
