Relation between Orientation & Mobility Skills and Level of Aspiration among Secondary School Students with Visual Impairment

Abstract
Background: Orientation and mobility has very important role to play in the lives of persons with visual impairment. It contributes a lot in the mainstreaming of persons with visual impairment whether it is education, training, employment and so on. Objectives: The study was carried out to find relation between orientation and mobility skills and level of aspiration among students with visual impairment studying in schools at secondary level. Major objective of the study was to compare the orientation & mobility skills and level of aspiration in students with visual impairment. The relationship was also explored with respect to their sex and nature of impairment. Sample: Thirty-four students with visual impairment were observed to study level of orientation & mobility skills among the student with visual impairment. Design: The survey method was used in the present study. Tool: Their level of aspiration was also tested with the help of Level of Aspiration Test developed by Ray and Singh. Results: Very low positive correlation between the orientation and mobility and level of aspiration of students with visual impairment was reported. Conclusion: Orientation and mobility training helps a person with a visual impairment know where he or she is in space and where he or she wants to go (orientation) and how to carry out a plan to get there (mobility).
