Relationship among Morpho-physiological Traits in Bread Wheat against Drought Stress at Presence of a Leonardite Derived Humic Fertilizer under Greenhouse Condition

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 4

Abstract

In order to evaluate the relationship between different traits on grain yield in bread wheat, 12 bread wheat (Triticum Aestivum L.) genotypes were evaluated under normal and drought stress conditions at presence of a Leonardite derived humic fertilizer under greenhouse condition. In normal and normal + Leonardite conditions, grain yield showed positive and significant correlation with biological yield, spike length, spike weight and no. of grain per spike. Under drought stress condition, grain yield showed positive and significant correlation with biological yield, no. of tillers, fertile tillers, spike length and spike weight. In drought stress + Leonardite condition, grain yield showed positive and significant correlation with biological yield, no. of tillers, fertile tillers, no. of grain per spike, spike length, spike weight, Fm and Fv/Fm. In normal and drought stress + Leonardite conditions, spike weight had the most positive direct effect on yield, while under normal + Leonardite condition, spike length and 1000 grain weight had the most positive direct effect on yield. Also, spike length had the most positive direct effect on yield in drought stress. So, this trait could be used as selection criteria for increasing yield. By comparing the values of correlation between the conditions of drought stress and drought stress + humic fertilizer can be concluded that use of fertilizers and improved traits and photosynthetic status have been reduce the effects of drought stress in plants.
