Removal of copper ions from contaminated aqueous solutions through adsorption process using modified polyurethane (PU) as an adsorbent
Journal Title: Scientific Journal of Environmental Sciences - Year 2015, Vol 4, Issue 4
Abstract
Entering the pollutants specially heavy and toxic metals into the water resources has worried the human societies specially those researchers who have been studied much research about this field, this claim of which is proved by the number of valid published articles. Neglecting toxic material removing from water will pose the non-compensable injuries to living organisms and environment. In the paper, the 2- Mercaptobenzothiazole modified polyurethane foam has been used for removal of Cu ion from contaminated water solutions. The continuous experiments have been carried out through preparing adsorption columns for studying and optimizing the effect of primary concentration of the metal, pH, adsorbents used in respect of gram and various conditions for preparing the used polyurethane. The results of the experiments indicated that optimized condition for removing Cu ion with performance of includes 5 g modified polyurethane sorbent by modifier with concentration 0.001 M and pH=5.

Effects of headphones on hearing acuity of students of Ahmadu Bello university, Zaria, Nigeria
Hearing is one of thefive senses; it is a complex process of picking up sound and attaching meaningto it. Exposure to loud noise can lead to hearing impairment. Personal audioelectronics such as MP3 players, iPods and ot...
The role of green energy systems and sustainable development
People are relying upon oil for primary energy and this will continue for a few more decades. Other conventional sources may be more enduring, but are not without serious disadvantages. The renewable energy resources are...
Determination of water quality of selected public wells in Ekiti state, south-western Nigeria
Representative water samples taken from some Public Hand-Dug Wells in Ekiti State were analysed for physico-chemical and microbiolgical characteristics using standard analytical methods. Results showed significant spatia...
Evaluation of photo-oxidation effect using TiO2 coated EPS (expanded polypropylene) in the stagnant stream channel
The photocatalyst is not directly applied to the water, because the form of nanoparticle. In this study, we developed a photo-oxidation ball to the improvement of water quality in stagnant water. And we used real-time mo...
Preparation of Bi2O3/TiO2 fixed photocatalysts and degradation of aqueous Bisphenol A under simulated sunlight
A series of Bi2O3/TiO2 composite photocatalysts (T, 0.5BT, 1.0BT, 2.0BT, 4.0BT, 6.0BT and 8.0BT) were synthesized and used to degrade aqueous bisphenol A (BPA) under simulated sunlight irradiation. The structures of the...
