REPETENCY OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE AND ITS DEFICIENT DESIGNATIONS

Abstract
Within the appreciable developing of tomography for both the medicine and engineering the electromagnetic waves are applied to penetrate an examined region. In particular, the monochromatic flat waves are concerned. It is supposed, that the computer analysis of the regions submitted to the electromagnetic wave tomography is actually far advanced, but the corresponding mathematical approach to the wave phenomena has, however, a rather cursory treatment. The base approach to the electromagnetic waves (in a direct form and in a complex notation as the Helmholtz equations) are presented. The special attempt is done to considering a complex quantity[i] k[/i] termed ‘repetency’ or ‘wave number’, for which various designations are chosen in publications. Relevant formulations of the wave equations are presented in the paper. They correspond to two various designations of[i] k[/i] and are depending also on the choice between the algebraic sign ± to Im([i] k[/i] ) or to Im( [i]k[/i][sup]2[/sup] ). <br/><br/>
