Journal Title: Psychological journal - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
Recently, the concept of «success» has firmly embedded in the life and culture of modern society. Success is one of the main life values of a person who is confronted with information flows about people who are successful in different spheres of life. In the ordinary consciousness of people can exist different models of success and the idea of a successful person. This is due to social status, educational level, the nature of professional activity, etc. At the same time, each person determines the criteria for success for himself. What is a success for one person is not necessarily a success for another. The purpose of this research was to study the concepts of a successful person among people of different professions. To study the structure and content of ideas about a successful person, was used the method of free descriptions, the results of which were processed through factor analysis. The study showed that in the structure of representations there are general and specific constructs. The general shows the unity of respondent’s understanding of the personality of a successful person, and the specific ones indicate the participation in the organization of personal representations, the unique life experience of each individual person. A comparative analysis of the structure and content of representations has shown that a successful person, in the opinion of people of different professions, should be active, aimed at achieving consciously set goals. People of different professions, describing the personality of a successful person, focus on the following aspects of success: dedication, professionalism, career, social status, self-development. At the same time, the respondent’s perceptions of a successful person contain a large number of specific constructs that are characteristic of people of specific professional activity. These facts allow us to propose that the ideas of a successful person existing in the ordinary consciousness of people mediate the activity of the individual in the professional world, in society, stimulating the desire for self-development, realizing one’s own capabilities and creativity.
