RESEARCH OF THE ADHESION OF STEEL AND PLASTICS IN THE CONTEXT OF THEIR APPLICATION IN FRICTIONAL COUPLES

Abstract

The paper deals with adhesion properties of steels and polymers in the context of their application in frictional couples. A general method for a qualitative estimate of the adhesive properties of solids is wetting angle measurement. The wetting angle measurements were used to determine the free surface energy for steels and polymers and the work of adhesion for steel-polymer combinations. The research was done on UHMW polyethylene, polyether ether ketone, polyoxymethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, 316L austenitic steel and C45 steels in four different hardnesses. The results of the experiment showed a great correlation between the work of adhesion and the static friction coefficient and had no influence on the hardness of steel on free surface energy in the steel-polymer material combinations. The research was carried out by means of a goniometer – DSA-HT12.<br/><br/>
