RESISTANT STARCH IN POTATO
Journal Title: Acta Scientiarum Polonorum – Agricultura - Year 2018, Vol 17, Issue 3
Abstract
Background. Starch and dietary fibers as well as carbohydrates that are not digested and absorbed in the small intestine, are chemically heterogeneous components derived from plants consumed by humans. These chemical components undergo a full or partial fermentation process in the large intestine. Starch and other carbohydrates are the main sources of energy in all diets, while cell wall polysaccharides are the main components of dietary fiber. Aim of the study. The role of starch and other carbohydrates in the human diet was analyzed in terms of structure and distribution in tissues, modification of these components during food processing and impact on functional properties in human nutrition and their behavior in the gastrointestinal tract. Conclusion. Potato and other starch products can play a large role in the prevention of hyperglycemia if starch-derived glucose is released into the circulation in a very slow manner. Potato starch cultivars are therefore very important not only for the industry, but also in the human diet.

THE FORMATION OF SELECTED SOIL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AFFECTED BY UNDERSOWN SPECIES UNDER ORGANIC WINTER RYE CULTIVATION
Two-factor field experiment was conducted in 2011-2014 and it was designed with split-plot method. The objective of the research was to assess the effect of undersown white clover and common serradella into single-cultiv...
YIELD AND QUALITY OF POTATO TUBERS FERTILIZED WITH UNDERSOWN CROPS IN AN INTEGRATED AND ORGANIC PRODUCTION SYSTEM
The yield and chemical composition of potato tubers is significantly diversified by fertilization with undersown crops and by the production system. The study presents research results from the years 2007-2010 whose aim...
EFFECT OF NITROGEN FERTILIZATION AND FUNGICIDE PROTECTION ON WINTER TRITICALE WHOLESOMENESS
Until recently, triticale was considered to be a species of low disease susceptibility. Research results indicate, however, that it is more and more frequently infected by stem-base, leaf, and spike diseases, and the los...
PROXIMITY EFFECT OF SPRING CEREALS AND LEGUMES IN STRIP INTERCROPPING. PART II. RESPONSE OF PEA TO THE PROXIMITY OF WHEAT, TRITICALE, BARLEY, AND YELLOW LUPINE
Background. Strip intercropping brings together the advantages of pure sowing and intercropping, but its production value depends on the reciprocal effect of the various species at the contact point of adjacent rows. The...
YIELD OF THE ABOVEGROUND PARTS AND TUBERS OF JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE (Helianthus tuberosus L.) DEPENDING ON PLANT DENSITY
In the years 2010-2012 the effect of plant density was studied on the yield of the aboveground parts and tubers of Polish cultivars of Jerusalem artichoke, Albik and Rubik. The experiment was carried out on a light soil...
