RESOLUTIONS OF IVAN FRANKO’S LVIV STATE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL ABOUT INTERCESSION FOR AWARDING OF ACADEMIC DEGREES AND STATUSES (JANUARY–MAY, 1941)

Abstract

In the article adducted and analyzed materials of Ivan Franko’s Lviv State University Council resolutions for a pe-riod January–May 1941 about awarding to its employees academic statuses and degrees after the Soviet model (Candi-date of Sciences, Doctor of Sciences, Senior Lecturer and Professor) instead of classical academic degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (Law, Medicine) and Habillitated Doctor and academic statuses of Senior Lecturer and Professor after Austrian and Polish models. There were famous Western Ukrainian scientists among the persons who awarded aca-demic statuses and degrees from the University Council: a historian Ivan Krypiakevych, archaeologists Yaroslav Pas-ternak, Markiian Smishko, Ivan Strachuk, an art critic Yosyf Pelenskyi; philologists Ilarion Svientsitskyi, Vasyl Si-movych, Mychailo Rudnytskyi, Teoksyst Pachkovskyi, Mykhailo Trshakovets, Yakym Yarema; a philologist and peda-gogue Ivan Kopach; a philosopher and pedagogue Stepan Rudnianskyi; lawyers Volodymyr Verganovkyi, Yevgen Da-vydiak, Oleksandr Nadraga, Oleksandr Maritchak, Mykola Topolnytskyi; a geographer Yurii Polianskyi; physicians Vasyl Miliianchuk, Zenon Khraplyvyi; a biologist Oleksandr Tysovskyi. Among famous Polish scientists who have passed a nostrification of academic degrees and statuses at the Lviv Uni-versity in 1941 there were historians Franciszek Bujak, Teofil Emil Modelski, archaeologists Edmund Bulanda, Kazimierz Majewski, an art critic Władysław Podlacha, ethnologists Adam Fischer and Jan Czekanowski; a philologist and philosopher Roman Ingarden; a philologist and culturologist Ryszard Ganszyniec; philologists Jerzy Kuryłowicz, Juliusz Kleiner, Jerzy Kowalski, Kazimierz Kolbuszewski, Eugeniusz Kucharski, Zygmunt Czerny, Zdzisław Stieber, Jan Janów, Jan Smereka, Stefania Skwarczyńska, Stefan Stasiak, Władysław Tarnawski, Witold Taszycki, Maria Dłuska, Marjan Auerbach, Jerzy Manteuffel; a historian and pedagogue Stanisław Łempicki, a pedagogue Mieczysław Ziemnowicz; lawyers Mauricy Allerhand, Przemysław Dąbkowski, Kazimierz Przybyłowski, Karol Koranyi; biologists Jan Noskiewicz, Kazimierz Sembrat; geologists Władysław Zych, Ludwik Chrobak, Kazimierz Smulikowski, Wawrzyniec Teisseyre, Wojcech Rogala; a chemist Wiktor Kemula; physicians Stanisław Loria, Henryk Orkisz; mathe-maticians Herman Auerbach, Leon Chwistek, Paweł Juliusz Schauder, Bronisław Knaster, Władysław Orlicz, Stanisław Saks. Also, among the other scientists, it should be mentioned such Doctors of Philosophy as a historian Mykyta Dumka, philologists Yeugeniush Słuszkiewicz, Władysław Floryan, Moisei Holiger, Yevhen Zavalynskyi, a lawyer Stefan Rozmaryn, mathematicians Yosyp Pepis, Majer Eidelheit, Edward Spilrajn, physicians Fedir Hula, Juda Krejzler, Marjan Puchalik, Jan Mergentaler, geophysicians Aleksander Kosiba, Tadeusz Olczak, a geographer Adam Malicki, geologists Bronisława Kokoszyńska, Hugo Piotrowski, biologists Volodymyr Brygider, Jan Badian, Henryk Grossfeld, Pylyp Eizenberh, botanists Hryhorii Kozii, Józef Mądalski, Józef Motyka, Bronisław Szafran; both persons, who, yet until 1939, hadn’t any academic degree: literators Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński and Volodymyr Rdzykevych, a philologist Mykola Pushkar, a botanist Yarema Ivanytskyi. To high regret, until now there were no any data founded about person, who awarded academic statuses and degrees in Lviv University in 1941: Z. Kirchner., H. (G.?) Sternbach.
