Response of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes under different salinity levels

Journal Title: Journal of Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences (JBES) - Year 2017, Vol 11, Issue 3

Abstract

A study of responses of wheat genotypes to salinity was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Rahmatpur, Barisal under different levels of Nacl salinity to evaluate the sensitivity of wheat genotypes to salinity. The experiment consists of 45 genotypes of wheat and five levels of salinity viz 0.8 (control) 8, 12, 16 and 20dS/m were used as treatments. Results revealed that salt tolerant genotypes were found in the diverse germplasm of wheat. The reduction of germination percentage was increased with the increases of salinity level. Germination percentage wheat genotypes markedly reduced above 12dS/m salinity. Some genotypes of wheat failed to germinate at 12 and 20dS/m salinity. Other parameters viz root and shoot length, root: shoot ratio, root and shoot length were also significantly reduced at salinity above 12dS/m.
