Review on dietary management of type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is characterized by hyperglycemia do to insulin action, insulin secretion or both. Clinical features of type 2 diabetes mellitus are polyuria, polyphagia and polydipsia. Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus leads to micro and macro vascular complications. Micro vascular complications are diabetes retinopathy, diabetes nephropathy, diabetes neuropathy and macro vascular complications are cerebrovascular diseases (haemorrhage, infract and memory disturbances), cardiovascular diseases (dyspnoea, chest pain, IHD etc.,) and diabetes ketoacidosis, diabetes foot and dermal changes.
