REVIEW ON MICROEMULSION AN UNCONVENTIONAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 7

Abstract

The concept of a microemulsion was first introduced in the 1940s to describe transparent single-phase systems generated by titrating a milky emulsion with hexanol. Since their first description, microemulsions have been extensively studied as delivery systems, due to their multiple advantages. In brief, microemulsions are clear, optically isotropic and thermodynamically stable systems generally composed of a blend of oil, water and surfactant Microemulsion are having unique properties, namely, ultralow interfacial tension, large interfacial area, thermodynamic stability and the ability to solubilize otherwise immiscible liquids microemulsions shows the advantage over macroemulsion due to their unique properties several theories were proposed for microemulsion formation. in this article there is a thorough review on preparation method and phase diagrams of microemulsion.
