Review on Parallel and Distributed Computing
Journal Title: Scholars Journal of Engineering and Technology - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 4
Abstract
Parallel and distributed computing is a complex and fast evolving research area. In its short 50-year history, the mainstream parallel computer architecture has evolved from Single Instruction Multiple Data stream (SIMD) to Multiple Instructions Multiple Data stream (MIMD), and further to loosely coupled computer cluster; now it is about to enter the Computational Grid era. The algorithm research has also changed accordingly over the years. However, the basic principles of parallel computing, such as inter-process and inter-processor communication schemes, parallelism methods and performance model, remain the same. In this paper, a short introduction of parallel and distributed computing will be given, which will cover the definition, motivation, various types of models for abstraction, and recent trend in mainstream parallel computing.

Discussion on Natural Daylighting and Energy-efficient Lighting Technology for Natatorium
Lighting consumes one fifth to one third of the total energy consumed by the operation of a natatorium, therefore, efficient daylighting plays an important role in energy efficiency of a natatorium as a whole. There are...
Influence of Boiling, Temperature and Thickness on Drying Time of Aerial Yam (Dioscorea bulbifera bulbis)
Effect of boiling, thickness (0.5 and 1cm) and temperature on drying time of Dioscorea bulbifera was investigated in a fabricated hot air drier at a temperature range of 50 -70°C. . The drying process was conducted in tr...
Catalytic Hydrogenation Reaction of Phenol to Cyclohexanol Using Supported Ruthenium Catalysts
Chlorinated organics released in aqueous effluent streams from various industries cause a major environmental concern. A systematic study of hydrogenation reaction of phenol to cyclohexanol over a Ruthenium supported cat...
Existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for singular second-order Dirichlet boundary problems with impulse actions
By mixed monotone method, we establish the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for singular second-order Dirichlet boundary problems with impulse actions. The theorems obtained are very general and complement...
Design and Fabrication of Quadrilateral Bubble Column Test Rig for Multiphase Flow Investigations
Bubble column reactor belongs to the general class of multiphase reactors in which gas come in contact with liquid. This reactor purposely used to mix the two phases or substances where the gas is dispersed into the colu...
