REVIVAL AND PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION IN CREMONA VIOLIN MAKING TRADITION AS A PROCESS THROUGH WHICH CURRENT AUTHENTICITY ATTITUDES ARE CONSTRUCTED

Abstract

How does the town of Cremona located in Italy have such a powerful impact in terms of identifying the norms related to violin making practice today and creating the behaviors of the people who dwell with this profession? How does this impact expand abroad and convince the practitioners there to adopt these behaviours and hold on to the tradition? Why do the violin makers prefer to work with a three-hundred yeras old technology inspite of the new tehcnological opportunities of the era? Questioning the relationship between the ideal criteria of a professionl practice and the political, economical and cultural needs of that professional circle; and analysing how the professional values and authenticity attitudes of violin making profession are created and run in the case of Cremona are the main subject matters of this article.
