RHEOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTIC VARIATIONS IN SYNTHETIC ENGINE OILS AFTER EXPLOITATION

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2009, Vol 226, Issue 4

Abstract

The aim of this thesis was to determine the changes of rheological characteristics of two synthetic oils - Castrol SLX 0W/30 Long Tec and Castrol TXT 5W/30 Softtec Plus. Research was performed on oils exploited for the distance of 15 000 km as well as new ones. The main issues explained in this thesis concerned the changes of rheological characteristics of synthetic oils grouped into different viscosity classes and the impact of temperature on rheological parameters. The rheological characteristics of samples were analysed at 22ºC and 40ºC. The viscometer Brookfield DV-II+ was used during research. Analysis of rheological characteristics was based on obtained results. It was noticed that, after the exploitation period, statistical differences of rheological parameters between analysed synthetic oils Castrol SLX 0W/30 Long Tec and Castrol TXT 5W/30 Softtec Plus were not essential; nevertheless, the differences in rheological parameters between exploited and unused synthetic oils were different for Castrol SLX 0W/30 Long Tec and Castrol TXT 5W/30 Softtec Plus.
