Abstract
An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional researching process with a mixed approach was carried out in order to characterize the cardiovascular risk factors in hypertensive patients treated in the outpatient cardiology clinic of IESS (Ecuadorian Social Security Institute) Hospital, Riobamba, in the period of January-June, 2013. A sample of 1256 according to different criteria was selected from a population study of 3889. The respective data were collected by reviewing documents through the corresponding guidedesigned. The female sex predominated in the research environment with 60.0%, as well as ages over 65. The sedentary lifestyle was the main risk factor present with 66.98% of incidence. The majority of the sample studied was classified as having a low cardiovascular risk of 74% and only 6.06% was classified as very high to suffer this disease during the following 10 years.
