The literary figures ,while writing , have been greatly influenced by the river and the essence of which has greatly been visible in their numerous writings .Some of the great novels , which deal with river and their influence on human fate , are Manik Bandyapadhyay’s ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’ , Adyaita Mallaya Barman’s ‘Titas Ekti Nadir Naam’ and Samaresh Bass’s ‘Ganga’ . The main purpose to select these three novels amidist the huge collection of novels or novelas ,is , though the three novels deal with three different rivers , yet they are unique at their own essence as they show the continuos dependence of the fishermen on those rivers for their existence as much as the rivers became the controller and the manipulator human fate.‘Padma Nadir Majhi’ deals with the liver of the fishermen who live on the bank of the river ‘Padma’. Though their lives fully depend on the river but they can never be certain of their food security .At last they are compelled to go to the ‘Maina Island ‘, an imaginative utopian island of Husain Mia . The different day to day complexities of the fishermen’s lives are captured through the unique vision of Manik Bandyapadhyay. The fishermen are forced to seek for another means for their survival , that is cultivation , but again they are defeated by the peasant class . The novel ends with a hope that their suffering can only be dissolved if they are educated. Samaresh Basu’s ‘Ganga’ is centred around ‘Ganga ‘, the sacred river of Bengal . It also deals with the fishermen community and the brokers .It portrays how the fishermen risk their lives in the ‘Ganga’ and listen to the un ignorable call of the sea for their survival.
