Road traffic accidents: Epidemiology, risk factors and prevention
Journal Title: Αρχεία Ελληνικής Ιατρικής - Year 2009, Vol 26, Issue 6
Abstract
Road traffic accidents are one of the most common causes of death and disability especially among young people. young people, males, alcohol or drug consumers and users of cellular phones are all more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident. In addition, various characteristics of the vehicle and road conditions may interact with the above human factors to increase the prevalence and severity of road traffic accidents. Studies have shown that simple preventive measures, such as use of seat belts and airbags, and reduction of speed limits can help to reduce the prevalence of deaths and injuries due to traffic accidents.
