Abstract
The article considers the reasons for the formation of Ivan Franko Ukrainian language spelling system in the magazine "Kurjer Lwowski". On material of the newspaper articles and notes, translated into Ukrainian, of that time linguistic problems are analysed in life of Ukrainians. And clear position of publicist is shown acording to the phonetic and ethemology. Prospects of writer’s claims for development of modern linguistics are determined. The phenomenon of language in Ivan Franko’s publications is shown.
