ROLE OF NATIONAL RESCUE AND FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM IN THE EVENT OF TERRORIST THREATS

Abstract
This paper is an attempt at introducing the role of the National Rescue and Fire Fighting System in the event of terrorist threats. I am of the opinion that the threat of a terrorist attack against Poland and Polish citizens is very likely. This is connected with the external situation in Poland and the geopolitical situation in the world. In the short term future there are no real possibilities to eliminate major sources of contemporary terrorism. As a result, one should assume that the fight of the international community against this phenomenon will last longer than expected, in spite of significant effects in this respect.One should also bear in mind that the main condition to ensure the effective organisation of rescue operations is to coordinate activities of many services (including the National Fire Service) with the National Rescue and Fire Fighting System and the authorities. The coordination should take place in the phase of organising and coordinating rescue activities, and also earlier – in the phase of checking rescue procedures and the phase of training.Another important thing while relieving the effects of a terrorist attack is the flow of information between all rescue bodies taking part in a rescue operation, especially between the police commanding officer or the commanding officer of another organization that coordinates the search for or the removal of the potential source of threat or terrorists.
