Runway incursions – clear and constant danger
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2014, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
Runway safety plays an important role in aviation industry. This paper deals with runway safety – runway incursion as a serious safety concern. Focusing attention on this issue is necessary due to many collisions with a significant loss of life and many aircraft damages. The first paragraph deals with general information about runway incursions with concentration on statistical overview of runway incidents. The second paragraph describes possible ways of mitigating processes that will lead to decreasing rate of incidents mainly at airports with confusing runway/taxiway orientation, such as Zurich Airport. It also emphasises importance of hot spots identification and subsequently their location at each airport. The last part of this paper deals with practical illustration of runway safety at mentioned Zurich Airport due to its confusing emplacement of runways and taxiways. Not less important are also positions of Action Plans and Action Teams at the point of solving problems related to runway incidents. Briefly, runway safety is an ongoing effort and we are committed to finding ways of making a safe system even safer. In addition to current runway safety initiatives, the following efforts will further the progress of increasing runway safety over the next several years.

Leading Edge Device Aerodynamic Optimization
Leading edge devices are conventionally used as aerodynamic devices that enhance performances during landing and in some cases during takeoff. The need to increase the efficiency of the aircrafts has brought the idea of...
Modeling of Target Tracking System for Homing Missiles and Air Defense Systems
One reason of why the guidance and control systems are imperfect is due to the dynamics of both the tracker and the missile, which appears as an error in the alignment with the LOS and delay in the response of the missil...
Guidance Optimization for Tactical Homing Missiles and Air Defense Systems
The aim of this paper is to develop a functional approach to optimize the engagement effectiveness of the tactical homing missiles and air defense systems by utilizing the differential geometric concepts. In this paper t...
The procedure for determining the local and global flow characteristics of spool valve SMHR 22.59.010 in order to be fitted to the assembly SMHR S.22.59.000
This procedure was designed within the Hydraulic Laboratory of INCREST-INCAS, in the '80s, to provide a unique way of checking and qualification of local and global flow characteristics of the spool valve SMHR S.22.59.01...
The Multipoint Global Shape Optimization of Flying Configuration with Movable Leading Edges Flaps
The aerodynamical global optimized (GO) shape of flying configuration (FC), at two cruising Mach numbers, can be realized by morphing. Movable leading edge flaps are used for this purpose. The equations of the surfaces o...
