Abstract
All lightning protection concepts are based on the theory that the lightning bolts will be the smallest when the impedance of the discharge elements to the ground will be as small as possible. Applying low impedance paths causes lightning currents to fail to reach the susceptible components. Lightning protection for blades, bearings, generator sets and electronic components requires effective grounding. The article discusses the existing rules and regulations defining what does it mean and shows examples how to implement it in practice.
