SAFETY AND ACCESSIBILITY OF FUNDS OF MANUSCRIPTS AND RARE BOOKS OF THE ACADEMIC LIBRARY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LATVIA

Abstract
The Academic Library of the University of Latvia contains the largest collection of Latvian literature in the world – the Misins Library and unique rare books and manuscripts (dating back to XIII century). Visitors have access to newspapers, maps, posters, photography and pictures. In order to ensure the long-term accessibility and safety of the materials, that are important for Latvian cultural history, the digitization of the materials was started in 1996. Since 2006 the Academic Library participates in the project Latvian National Digital Library.
