Scenario of H1N1 Influenza in recent outbreak (2015) at Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad

Abstract
Indian swine flu outbreak of 2015 refers to extension of the outbreak of the 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus in India, which is still ongoing as of April 2015. The states of Gujarat and Rajasthan are the worst affected. At the Civil Hospital of Ahmedabad, a special Swine Flu Out Patient Department was organised where 10,367 patients with suspicion of Swine Flu were examined between January and March 2015. Eight thousand nine hundred and thirteen with category A and B1 swine flu were treated on outpatient basis. One thousand ninety six of the remaining 1454 patients belonging to category C tested positive for H1N1 status. They were admitted in specially organised isolation wards. One hundred and seventy five of these 1096 expired with mortality of 15.9 percent. It was important to note that mortality was recorded among the younger age group too.
