Secular variation of geomagnetic field in Antarctica

Journal Title: Геофизический журнал - Year 2016, Vol 38, Issue 2

Abstract

The changes of the geomagnetic field secular variations at the Antarctic magnetic observato¬ries for 1956—2010 years were investigated. The comparison between the secular variations at the Antarctica continent and at north polar cap and adjacent observatories in the middle latitudes of south hemisphere was performed. The conclusion was drawn that secular variations at the high latitudes of the Earth have three sources: first — changes of the position of the central dipole and also changes of the value of its magnetic momentum, second — the changes of the intensities of the tectonic sources. These sources create the south-African and Antarctic magnetic anomalies? And third — the changes of geomag¬netic activity depending on the sign of general magnetic field of the Sun, and correspondently, on the sign of the vertical component of the interplanetary magnetic field.
