Selecting the Sensor Type for the Point Sensor

Abstract

A key aspect in the development and production of new point sensors that would function reliably in a railway operating environment and would be competitive at a price is a sound choice of the element base. This is based on the analysis of sensors designed to measure the parameters of the constants, variables and pulsed electromagnetic fields, the characteristics of these sensors and their design, which is discussed in the article of the research. As a result, the basic characteristics of various types of sensors are established in terms of the possibility of using them as a means of monitoring the freedom of track sections. It was revealed that inductive sensors are the most suitable for use in railway transport. However, in some cases, it is also necessary to use high-frequency modulators with a core to improve existing point-to-point trackers in order to improve the speed and accuracy of determining the wheel pair on the railway track.
