SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THE TOOTH MATERIAL IN THE CONTEXT OF THE APPLIED FINISHING TREATMENT OF CASE HARDENED AND QUENCHED TEETH

Abstract

The issues are addressed relating to the selection of material to make gear teeth, depending on the applied finishing treatment techniques. Gear teeth considered in the study are those used in driving systems in earthmoving machines, where the drive systems handle large torque, which varies considerably throughout the duty cycle. The basic elements ensuring the required reliability and durability of the driving systems are gear teeth featuring high surface strength (resistance to pitting corrosion) and a high volumetric resistance of the tooth root (resistance to tooth breaking). Application of the required finishing of teeth made of a carefully selected material gives them the required fatigue endurance.<br/><br/>
