SELF-ASSESSMENT OF THE GENERAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF THE CITIZENS OF THE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA: DATA FROM THE SECOND NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE EPIDEMIOLOGICAL TUDY OF COMMON MENTAL DISORDERS IN BULGARIA - EPIBUL 2

Abstract

Conducting a second national representative epidemiological study of the disease of common mental disorders. Examination of self-assessment of general physical and mental health by gender, age and place of residence. A US research methodology has been used to allow an in-depth investigation into the psychiatric complaints of the population by non-medical practitioners. The methodology gathers information on the prevalence of common mental illnesses, their relationship to lifestyle and the use of mental health services. Questionnaires were conducted with 1599 people from all over the country. The results indicate that respondents underestimate problems in their mental functioning, highlighting somatic issues.
