Journal Title: Науковий вісник Міжнародного гуманітарного університету. Серія «Філологія» - Year 2018, Vol 33, Issue 1
Abstract
The article analyzes the essence of the notion “semantic changes of lexis”. There have been pointed out some types of semantic changes: quantitative (narrowing, generalization), qualitative (metaphors, metonymies) and axiological (amelioration, pejoration). It has been established that the process of semantic changes in the Old English period took place mostly at the expense of metaphoric transference and narrowing of meaning.
